Zingo!® Word Builder Review
My 3 year old and I sat down to play this game while my youngest was napping and she loved it! She is getting really good at her letters and the sounds they make. She can put together short words if she is really concentrating.
In this game, you have a board with letters missing. You hit the Zingo letter releaser and two letters come out. The idea is that the first person to yell out a word they can spell on their board using one (or both) of the letters displayed, gets that letter. I, of course, let her get first dibs on pretty much every letter and it worked really well! She was spelling words like cat, dog, and Bot (from UmiZoomi she said). Not bad for just turning 3 if you ask me!
We have played this game several times now and we all have a lot of fun with it. Yes, she is a little on the young side and we have to help her here and there (usually when she only has one word left, she tries to put every letter in the blank spot so she can “win”), but I can say for sure that this game is teaching her to spell.
The boards have an “easy” side (words with 1 blank) and a “hard” side (words with 2 blanks) so it is good for older children as well! The recommended ages are 5 and up, but I do think some younger kids can excel with close help from their parents or older siblings! The pieces themselves are very durable and well made. Another great game by ThinkFun, that is for sure!
If you are looking for games that will teach kids while they don’t even know it, then ThinkFun has you covered! Check out my reviews of more ThinkFun games here: Move & Groove, Shell Game, & Robot Turtles. You can purchase Zingo on Amazon here or directly from ThinkFun here for only $19.99 – I think this is a great price, especially if you children are at the early stages of spelling as it will last a long time!
